ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Profound anesthesia with adequate duration is required in periodontal flap surgery, which involves the manipulation of both hard and soft tissues. The anterior middle superior alveolar (AMSA) injection may be an alternative to multiple injections required for this purpose in the maxilla. The present study aimed to assess the effectiveness of AMSA injection using computer-controlled local anesthetic delivery (CCLAD) system to anesthetize buccal hard tissue (BHT), buccal soft tissue (BST), palatal hard tissue (PHT), and palatal soft tissue (PST) around the maxillary teeth. METHODS: Thirty-five patients who were indicated for open flap debridement in a whole maxillary quadrant were given AMSA injection using the CCLAD. The effectiveness of anesthesia was evaluated using subjective and objective parameters around each tooth. Supraperiosteal infiltrations were administered to complete the surgery wherever the AMSA injection was ineffective. RESULTS: The AMSA injection was more effective on the palatal tissues than on the buccal tissues, as 94.14% of PST and 87.89% of PHT sites were anesthetized compared to 49.22% and 43.75% of BHT and BST sites, respectively. There was no significant difference in the frequency of anesthesia around the anterior and posterior teeth. The PHT was significantly more anesthetized (P = 0.003) in males than in females. CONCLUSIONS: The AMSA injection using CCLAD is highly effective on palatal tissues and could be used as a first-line anesthesia for periodontal flap surgery. However, its effect on buccal tissues is less predictable, with supraperiosteal infiltration often required to supplement the AMSA injection.

ABSTRACT

Suspensions of poly ε-caprolactone (PCL) nanoparticles loaded with thyme essential oil were prepared as a natural antioxidant in mayonnaise. Mean particle size was 204.9 ± 2.7 and 240.0 ± 5.5 nm respectively for nanoparticles prepared with PCL alone (NP-C) and for those loaded with thyme essential oil (NP-T). The polydispersity index indicated a homogeneous distribution of all particles, with no significant difference between NP-C and NP-T samples. The nanoparticles showed a large negative charge evidenced by zeta potential rates, indicating high physical stability. The use of PCL as a polymer provided high encapsulation efficiency for thyme essential oil (91.15 ± 2.12 %). DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method determined IC50 rates were 476.4 ± 33.6 and 483.5 ± 20.4 µg mL-1respectively for unencapsulated oil and for NP-T, evidencing pronounced antioxidant activity. NP-C, NP-T and synthetic antioxidant butylhydroxytoluene (BHT) were applied to samples of mayonnaise and their oxidative stability evaluated for eight days in an oven at 63 ± 3ºC. Results of hydroperoxide value (HP) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) showed that NP-T had a similar performance as synthetic antioxidant BHT in the prevention of mayonnaise lipid oxidation

ABSTRACT

Culinary mushroom Pleurotus pulmonarius has been popular in Asian countries. In this study, the anti-oxidant, cholinesterase, and inflammation inhibitory activities of methanol extract (ME) of fruiting bodies of P. pulmonarius were evaluted. The 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazy free radical scavenging activity of ME at 2.0 mg/mL was comparable to that of butylated hydroxytoluene, the standard reference. The ME exhibited significantly higher hydroxyl radical scavenging activity than butylated hydroxytoluene. ME showed slightly lower but moderate inhibitory activity against acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase than galantamine, a standard AChE inhibitor. It also exhibited protective effect against cytotoxicity to PC-12 cells induced by glutamate (10~100 µg/mL), inhibitory effect on nitric oxide (NO) production and inducible nitric oxide synthase protein expression in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages, and carrageenan-induced paw edema in a rat model. High-performance liquid chromatography analysis revealed the ME of P. pulmonarius contained at least 10 phenolic compounds and some of them were identified by the comparison with known standard phenolics. Taken together, our results demonstrate that fruiting bodies of P. pulmonarius possess antioxidant, anti-cholinesterase, and inflammation inhibitory activities.

ABSTRACT

Abstract The use of a free-radical polymerization inhibitor, butylhydroxytoluene (BHT), and a common photo-initiator, camphorquinone (CQ), to reduce polymerization stress in dental composite was investigated in this study. Samples were prepared by mixing Bis-GMA, UDMA, and TEGDMA at a 1:1:1 ratio (wt%), and silanized borosilicate glass fillers at 70 wt% were added to form the composite. Sixteen groups of resin composite were prepared using combinations of four CQ (0.1%, 0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5%) and four BHT (0.0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5%) concentrations. For each group, six properties were tested, including flexural strength (FS), flexural modulus (FM), degree of conversion (DC), contraction stress (CS), stress rate, and gel point (GP). The effects of CQ and BHT combinations on each of these properties were evaluated using two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Fisher's Protected Least Significant Differences test at the 5% significance level. Groups with low CQ and BHT showed moderate values for FS, FM, and CS with a 70% DC. Increasing the BHT concentration caused a decrease in CS and DC with an increase in GP values. Increasing the CQ content led to a steady increase in values for FS and FM. High CQ and BHT combinations showed the most promising values for mechanical properties with low stress values.

A remodelação do epitélio e do mesênquima subjacente tem um papel crucial na patogênese da fibrose pulmonar experimental. A iniciação, gravidade e distribuição de fibrose varia entre os diferentes agentes químicos. Estudos recentes indicaram que o envolvimento epitelial, a expressão de proteínas reguladoras do epitélio, ativação endotelial, estresse do retículo endoplasmático, a ativação de fibroblastos e acumulação de diferentes tipos de colágeno, pode ser específica em lesão causadas por diferentes agentes químicos. Neste estudo, comparou-se a fibrose pulmonar induzida por bleomicina (BLM) e hidroxitolueno butilado (BHT). Envolvimento epitelial, proteínas reguladoras, ativação endotelial e de fibroblastos foram quantitativamente avaliados pela densidade de células alveolares, expressão de telomerase, endotelina-1 (ET-1), fator de crescimento vascular (VEGF), fator de transformação do crescimento beta (TGF-beta) e do fator de crescimento de fibroblastos básico (bFGF). Estresse celular em células epiteliais alveolares do tipo 2 (AEC II) e fibroblastos, eventualmente, responsáveis pela gênese da fibrose pulmonar, foram investigados por microscopia eletrônica. Os colágenos do tipo I (Col I), III (Col III) e V (Col V) foram caracterizados e quantificados por imunofluorescência. A quantidade de colágeno pulmonar e alterações histológicas fibróticas foram significativamente aumentadas nos grupos BLM e BHT em relação aos controles, com diferença significativa entre a resposta fibrótica precoce e tardia. A densidade AEC II, a expressão da telomerase, ET-1, VEGF, TGF-beta e bFGF foram significativamente maiores nos grupos BLM e BHT do que em pulmões dos grupos controles, com diferença significativa entre a fase precoce e tardia da resposta fibrótica. Mitocôndrias anormais e estresse do retículo endoplasmático em AEC II e fibroblastos foram encontrados em ambos os grupos fibróticos. Epithelial and underlying mesenchyme remodeling have a critical role in the pathogenesis of experimental pulmonary fibrosis. The initiation, distribution and severity of fibrosis varies among different chemical agents. Recent studies have indicated that epithelial involvement, expression of epithelial regulatory proteins, endothelium activation, endoplasmic reticulum stress, fibroblast activation and accumulation of different types of collagen may be specific in various chemical agents of injury. In this study, bleomycin (BLM) and Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT)-induced pulmonary fibrosis in mice were compared. Epithelial involvement, regulatory proteins, endothelium and fibroblast activation were quantitatively evaluated by alveolar cells density, telomerase, endothelin-1 (ET-1), Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) expression. Cellular stress in type 2 alveolar epithelial cells (AEC II) and fibroblasts, eventually responsible by generating lung fibrosis, were investigated by electron microscopy. We characterized and quantified collagen type I (Col I), III (Col III) and V (Col V) by immunofluorescence. Lung collagen content and fibrotic histological changes were significantly increased in BLM and BHT models compared to control with significant difference between early and late fibrotic response. AEC II density, telomerase expression, ET-1, VEGF, TGF-beta and bFGF were significantly higher than control lungs with significant difference between early and late BLM and BHT fibrotic response. Abnormal mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum in AEC II and fibroblasts was found in both groups of chemical agents. Increased of Col I, Col III and V fibers accumulation was found in the lung interstitium after BLM and BHT instillation. ABSTRACT

Incidence of post-operative seizure after burr-hole trephination (BHT) for chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is known to be very low. The effect of the prophylactic antiepileptic drug in reducing the development of new seizure after surgery is still unclear. Here, we present a case of fatal status epilepticus with progressive respiratory complication following early discontinuation of prophylactic antiepileptic drug in an 84-year-old man who had undergone bilateral BHT and closed-system drainage for bilateral CSDH. Although the efficacy of the prophylactic anticonvulsants in BHT for CSDH has been controversial, the development of status epilepticus postoperatively seems to be strongly associated with an increased mortality rate in aged patients. Therefore, prophylactic anticonvulsants should be administrated in aged patients who undergo surgery for CSDH, until a definitive clinical treatment guideline is suggested.

ABSTRACT

Limitations on tissue proliferation capacity determined by telomerase/apoptosis balance have been implicated in pathogenesis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. In addition, collagen V shows promise as an inductor of apoptosis. We evaluated the quantitative relationship between the telomerase/apoptosis index, collagen V synthesis, and epithelial/fibroblast replication in mice exposed to butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) at high oxygen concentration. Two groups of mice were analyzed: 20 mice received BHT, and 10 control mice received corn oil. Telomerase expression, apoptosis, collagen I, III, and V fibers, and hydroxyproline were evaluated by immunohistochemistry, in situ detection of apoptosis, electron microscopy, immunofluorescence, and histomorphometry. Electron microscopy confirmed the presence of increased alveolar epithelial cells type 1 (AEC1) in apoptosis. Immunostaining showed increased nuclear expression of telomerase in AEC type 2 (AEC2) between normal and chronic scarring areas of usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP). Control lungs and normal areas from UIP lungs showed weak green birefringence of type I and III collagens in the alveolar wall and type V collagen in the basement membrane of alveolar capillaries. The increase in collagen V was greater than collagens I and III in scarring areas of UIP. A significant direct association was found between collagen V and AEC2 apoptosis. We concluded that telomerase, collagen V fiber density, and apoptosis evaluation in experimental UIP offers the potential to control reepithelization of alveolar septa and fibroblast proliferation. Strategies aimed at preventing high rates of collagen V synthesis, or local responses to high rates of cell apoptosis, may have a significant impact in pulmonary fibrosis.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is one of the most common types of intra-cranial hemorrhages usually associated with trauma. Surgical treatment is the treatment of choice and burr hole trephination (BHT) is widely performed. The recurrence rate in the patients with CSDH is 3.7-30%. This study investigated the risk factors associated with the recurrence of patients with CSDH who underwent BHT. METHODS: One hundred twenty-five patients with CSDH underwent BHT. Eight of 125 patients (6.4%) underwent reoperation for recurrent CSDH. We retrospectively analyzed demographic, clinical and radiological findings, catheter tip location and drainage duration as the risk factors for the recurrence of CSDH. RESULTS: Recurrence of CSDH in the high- or mixed-density groups was significantly higher than those in the low- or iso-density groups (p<0.001). Placement of catheter tip at the temporoparietal area was associated with a significantly higher recurrence rate of CSDH than placement at the frontal area (p=0.006) and the brain re-expansion rate (BRR) was much lower than placement at the frontal area (p<0.001). CONCLUSION: The operation may be delayed in high- and mixed-density groups, unless severe symptoms or signs are present. In addition, placing the catheter tip at the frontal area helps to reduce the incidence of postoperative recurrence of CSDH and to increase the BRR.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the chemical components of essential oils from Meconopsis oliverana and their antioxidant activity.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>The essential oil was extracted by steam distillation, and GC-MS analysis was used to identify its constituents. The OH free radical scavenging activity of the essential oils was evaluated with an enzyme mark instrument by assay of the ability of DPPH free radical scavenging. BHT was used as positive control.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>Forty-seven compounds, account for 91.866% of the essential oils, were identified. The ability of scavenging OH and DPPH radicals of the essential oils is stronger than that of BHT.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The main chemical constituents of the essential oils from M. oliverana are n-hexadecanoic acid (27.653%) and 6,10,14-trimethyl-2-pentadecanone (16.330%). And the essential oils showed strong antioxidant activity.</p>

Antioxidants are currently used as efficient excipients that delay or inhibit the oxidation process of molecules. Excipients are often associated with adverse reactions. Stability studies can guide the search for solutions that minimize or delay the processes of degradation. The ability to predict oxidation reactions in different drugs is important. Methods: This study was conducted to assess the rational use of butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), sodium metabisulfite (SMB), propyl gallate (PG) and cysteine (CYS) in tablet formulations of simvastatin and ketoconazole. These antioxidants were evaluated according to stability parameters and the relationship between efficiency of the antioxidant and chemical structure of the drugs. Results were compared with DPPH tests and computational simulations. BHT was most efficient regarding simvastatin stability, and the most effective BHT concentrations for maintaining stability were 0.5 and 0.1%. In relation to ketoconazole, SMB was most efficient for maintaining content and dissolution profile. The evaluation by DPPH showed that the largest percentage of absorbance reduction was observed for PG, while SMB proved most efficient and had lower consumption of DPPH. The same pattern was observed, albeit with lower efficiency, for the other lipophilic antioxidants such as BHT and BHA. The results of the molecular modeling study demonstrated that electronic properties obtained were correlated with antioxidant activity in solution, being useful for the rational development of liquid pharmaceutical formulations but not for solid oral formulations. This study demonstrated the importance of considering stability parameters and molecular modeling to elucidate the chemical phenomena involved in antioxidant activity, being useful for the rational use of antioxidants in the development of pharmaceutical formulations.


Atualmente, antioxidantes são usados como excipientes eficientes, que retardam ou inibem o processo de oxidação de moléculas. Excipientes são frequentemente associados a efeitos adversos. Estudos de estabilidade podem ajudar na busca por possíveis soluções para minimizar ou retardar os processos de degradação. A habilidade de prever as reações de oxidação em diferentes fármacos é importante. O estudo foi conduzido com o objetivo de avaliar o uso racional de hidroxianisol butilado (BHA), hidroxitolueno butilado (BHT), metabissulfito sódico (SMB), galato de propila (PG) e cisteína (CYS) em formulações de comprimidos de sinvastatina e cetoconazol. Eles foram avaliados por parâmetros de estabilidade e pela relação entre a eficiência dos antioxidantes e a estrutura química do fármaco. Os resultados foram comparados com testes de DPPH e simulações em computador. BHT foi mais eficiente com relação a estabilidade da sinvastatina e às concentrações mais eficientes para manutenção de estabilidade foram 0,5 e 0,1%. Com relação ao cetoconazol, SMB foi mais eficiente em manter o conteúdo e o perfil de dissolução. A avaliação por DPPH mostrou que o maior percentual de redução de absorção foi observado para PG, enquanto que SMB mostrou ser mais eficiente e consumir menos DPPH. A mesma tendência foi observada com menos eficiência em todos os outros antioxidantes lipofílicos como o BHT e BHA. Os resultados do estudo de modelagem molecular demonstraram que as propriedades eletrônicas obtidas podem ser correlacionadas com a atividade antioxidante em solução, sendo útil para o desenvolvimento racional de formulações farmacêuticas líquidas, mas não para formulações sólidas orais. Este estudo demonstrou a importância de considerar parâmetros de estabilidade e modelagem molecular para elucidar os fenômenos químicos envolvidos na atividade antioxidante, sendo úteis para o uso racional de antioxidantes no desenvolvimento de formulações farmacêuticas.

ABSTRACT

Induced hypothermia for newborns with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy results in a significant decrease in mortality and neurodevelopmental disability. For optimal neuroprotection following perinatal hypoxia-ischemia (HI), therapy should begin within 6 hrs of the insult and continue for > or =72 hrs. We report on a baby with HI who underwent therapeutic hypothermia that was initiated with a cooling fan, as the whole-body cooling machine was in use for another patient. Although overcooling occurred, the method was successful. For effective and safe brain hypothermic therapy (BHT), a purpose-built cooling machine is recommended. The adherence to standard protocol is required for every BHT, as clearly defined by protocols similar to those used in published trials.

ABSTRACT

Erlotinib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor that acts on the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). There have been many reports of the mucocutaneous side effects related to several EGFR inhibitors (EGFRIs). However, no case of black hairy tongue (BHT) associated with EGFRI has been reported. Herein, we report the first case of erlotinib-induced BHT in a 61-year-old man with advanced lung cancer. Considering recent use of EGFRIs worldwide, dermatologists should recognize the possible occurrence of BHT associated with EGFRIs such as erlotinib.

With the establishment of HPLC and LC-MS methods to determine the related substances and the content of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) in ipratropium bromide aerosol products, several packing material-related impurities were identified, including antioxygen BHT and antioxygen 2246. Results showed that these leachable additives from the packing materials may present at a relative high level in the drug solution, and the low content of API in the drug products is usually due to the adsorption of the packing material as well as the leaking of contents. The current available assay methods for the control of ipratropium bromide aerosol products are often lack of specificity and unable to assure the drug quality effectively. To meet the increasing attention on the regulations of drug packing materials, our research would be a pilot study, indicating that the inappropriate packing materials could cause the migration and adsorption of the active ingredients, and the importance to have compatibility studies between packing materials and drugs.

Bioidentical hormone therapy (BHT) refers to the use of hormones that are molecularly and chemically identical to endogenous hormones for purposes of hormone replacement therapy. The specific hormones used in BHT include estrone, estradiol, estriol, progesterone and testosterone. Since the result of the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) trial documented the increased risk of breast cancer, cardiovascular disease and stroke in users of conventional hormone therapy (CHT), use of CHT has declined and there has been increased interest in BHT. Bioidentical hormones have some distinctly different physiologic effects compared with synthetic hormones. Synthetic progestin is associated with an increased risk for breast cancer and cardiovascular disease, while natural progesterone is associated with a decreased risk of breast cancer and cardiovascular disease. Estriol has some unique physiologic effects, which differentiate it from estrone and estradiol. Estriol is associated with a lower risk of breast cancer and would be expected to prevent breast cancer, but few randomized controlled trials have been documented. Some clinical data demonstrate that BHT is associated with a lower risk of breast cancer and cardiovascular disease, and is more efficacious than synthetic hormones. However, there is little evidence in support of this claim. Moreover, estriol has not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Further studies are needed to confirm the safety and efficacy of BHT.

ABSTRACT

Residue of methanolic extract of Egyptian Jatropha curcas contains bioactive substances such as phenolic compounds, which succeeded to be used as natural antioxidants for the protection of oils and their corresponding biodiesel against oxidative deterioration. In the present work, the residue of Jatropha roots were extracted with methanol and resulting residues, were investigated regarding their content of total phenolic compounds by folin-Cioalteau assay. Further, the antioxidant activities of the extracts were characterized by the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical method and proved remarkable results. Oxidation stability of Jatropha oil, used fried oil and olive oil and their corresponding biodiesel obtained by conventional transesterification were tested using thermal oxidation. Natural antioxidants such as [alpha-trocopherol], synthetic antioxidants as butylated hydroxytoluene and natural Jatropha root extract were used in the present study in comparison to investigate their addition effect on the oxidative stability of oils and their corresponding biodiesel. In the rapied thermal treatment test, results showed that addition of butylated hydroxytoluene 0.25% was able to stabilize Jatropha oil 6 h, but poorly stabiliz biodiesel. Addition of 0.25% alpha-trocopherol to Jatropha oil showed less oxidation stability after 2 h thermal treatment. Crude root extract addition at 0.25% to Jatropha oil showed good stability up to 4 h thermal treatment while addition of root extract at 0.25% to biodiesel showed better stability up to 6 h thermal treatment. Besides addition of 220 ppm crude root extract to biodiesel was enough sufficient to occure oxidative stabilization. Also Jatropha root residue addition at 400 ppm was effective antioxidant for fresh Jatropha oil

ABSTRACT

The wild simulated ginseng (WSG) has been effectively used in folk medicine as a remedy against hepatic disease, hypertension and arthritic disease. However, there is still lack of scientific proof about its antioxidant capability. The present study has been conducted to evaluate the protective role of the WSG ethanol extract in the CCl4-induced oxidative stress and resultant hepatic disfunction in ICR mice. The electron donating abilities and IC50 of WSG etnanol extract were 76.86 +/- 1.06% and 33.3 ug/mL (that of ascobic acid was 16.5 ug/mL), respectively. Total antioxidant status of WSG extract was 2.13 +/- 0.06 mmoL/mg, while the values of ascorbic acid and BHT were 3.63 +/- 0.06 and 3.12 +/- 0.02, respectively. ICR mice (aged 3weeks) were fed for 4 weeks on AIN-93M diet and had free access to food and water. The animals were divided into three groups: normal group (intraperitoneally (i.p) injected with PBS at 100 microliter/mouse), group C; CCl4-induced and without any treatment. (i.p injected only PBS, 100 microliter /mice), group G; CCl4-induced and treated with WSG (i.p injected with 5 mg WSG extract per mouse, suspended in 100 microliter phosphate buffer). After the i.p. injection of WSG or PBS (5 times for 7weeks), all mice were administered CCl4 in olive oil at the last day of the experiment, except for normal group. The normal group was administered only olive oil. Determination of plasma triglyceride, total cholersterol, fasting glucose and GPT activity was performed using automatic blood analyzer. To evaluate the protective effect against the oxidative stress, DNA fragmentation and TBARS were determined in blood leucocytes and RBC and hepatocyte, respectively. Body and organs weights and food intake did not show significant differences among the groups. Blood total cholesterol of group G was similar to that of normal group, which was the lowest in group C. The fasting blood glucose level was the highest in normal group (205.20 +/- 135.24), which were decreased in group C (134.2 +/- 79.31) and group G (126.48 +/- 77.05). TBARS values in a red blood cell and hepatic tisuue homogenate were lower in group G comparing to the group C. DNA% in tail, tail length (TL) and tail moment (TM) of blood leucoocytes showed the highest values in group C (20.11 +/- 2.47, 17.36 +/- 2.58, 94.11 +/- 12.29) and they were significantly diminished in group G (9.63 +/- 1.19, 7.04 +/- 1.50, 38.64 +/- 7.60). In conclusion, wild simulated ginseng might be a protective agent against the oxidative stress.

ABSTRACT

The aim of the present study is to investigate the effect of different concentration of antioxidants on oxidative stress in rats fed on an oxidized oil. Sunflower oil was submitted to fryer treatments at temperature between [180-190 °C] on intermittent periods for 24 hrs. The changes in chemical properties of frying oil compared to fresh sunflower oil were investigated. Data illustrate the presence of an increase in acid value, peroxide value, polymers and a decrease in iodine number. Fatty acids constituents of this tested oil were also investigated. Fifty-four rats weighing approximately 100 grams each were divided into nine groups, each group containing six rats. Groups S2 and S3 fed on diets containing oxidized oil [15%] and the other groups S4, S5, S6, S7, S8 and S9 fed on the same diet used in group S2 and supplemented with different concentration of antioxidants BHT [.02 gm/100gm oil], sodium selenite [1.5 mg / kg diet], beta-carotene [10 mg/200gm rat/day], anthocyanin [1.43mg/200gm rat/day], cinnamon essential oil [0.9 gm/100 gm oil] and clove essential oil [0.9 gm/100 gm oil] respectively. Rats fed oxidized oil [S2 and S3] had higher concentrations of cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides. Although, the concentration of total thyroxine in plasma of rats fed oxidized diet [S2 and S3] was higher than rats fed the oxidized oil and supplemented with different concentrations of antioxidants. The damage caused by the oxidized oil was revealed by a significantly rise in lactic acid dehydrogenase activity [LDH] and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances [TBARs] in plasma of rats in groups S2 and S3. Compared to other groups [S4, S5, S6, S7, S8 and S9]. On the other hand, BHT as synthetic antioxidant at 200 ppm induced significant decrease in TBARs and increase in the LDH activity and function [liver and kidney]. Microscopical examinations of thyroid gland, heart, liver and kidney tissues of rats treated with natural antioxidants had the histological characters as that of the control rats whilst, the treatment of BHT at 200 ppm altered the features of rat liver, kidney, thyroid gland and severely damaged rat heart tissues
